I am Fiona, a visible mender, crafter and pattern drafter driven by my creativity and my need to make our fashion industry more durable. I am also a mother, and my other time is spent in international student administration.
As a teenager, my main goal was to create a unique look for myself,
but I always questioned how 'fast' the fashion industry was.
I quickly gravitated to second hand shops and making things myself. This led me (meanderingly, but straight lines are boring) to studying Pattern Drafting and Dressmaking at Syntra, where I ended top of the class.
Because I find hemming trousers and invisible mends a little boring, I love adding value to a garment by showing off the repair. With this blog, and through my work, I hope to inspire you to use various mending techniques, and source materials for your clothing (or whichever lucky person you are making things for) that aren't necessarily new.
When my mother fell ill, my need to help in a practical way latched on to knitting hats,
and so a new addiction was born: knitting.
I hope to add that to my list of workshops soon.
Whatever you do, you will be creating something, and it will reflect your personality.
The process needn't go fast either, it is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.
